How do I make seat reservations?

You can make seat reservations through the Rail Planner Travel app in the Interrail online booking tool. When looking up a train connection in the 'Planner' section of the app, you will see a button, 'book your reservations'. By clicking this, you will be redirected to Eurail's online booking system.


You can also access the Interrail's booking system via the ‘More’ section of the app, by tapping ‘Seat Reservations’. Search for the country and tap ‘Book with Eurail/Interrail’ to book through the Interrail online booking tool.


Once you're on the Interrail booking system, log in with the same email address you used for your Pass, and enter the departure and arrival station. The timetable will then show you where seat reservations are needed. If the route shows a green note ‘Included’, there is no need to make a seat reservation. If the route shows ‘Seat reservations required’ in orange, you need to make a seat reservation.


If a train has a seat available, you can select it by selecting the seat type you'd like to book (usually there is only one choice) and adding it to your cart. You can add multiple seats to your cart, though we advise against trying to book more than 4 different routes at once. If you need to buy four trains or more, then please make several orders to prevent errors in the booking process. 


Once you've got your order ready you can view your cart, click on Checkout and follow the steps to enter your details (if needed). You can then proceed to payment. Once the order is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email. The e-tickets in your order can be found in the attachment to this email, as well as in your online Interrail account and the Rail Planner App. Any paper tickets will be shipped to your address as soon as possible. You will receive a Track & Trace code once this is done, so keep an eye on your messages in the following days. 


Note: Paper tickets need to be ordered sometime in advance to accommodate shipping times. If you are ordering too close to the time of departure, the system will give an error message prior to checkout. You can then purchase this seat reservation directly at the train station instead (subject to availability).
